Things To Know
Climate:
December to March is the summer season. Temperatures do not usually exceed 90 degree Fahrenheit (32 Celsius). The coastal areas can be humid but inland is very pleasant. April and May are the rainy season when heavy showers onset mostly in the late afternoon and during the night.
June to August is winter season. Temperatures usually range from a low of 50 degrees Fahrenheit (19 Celsius) to a high of 78 degrees Fahrenheit (26 Celsius). This is a good time to see the annual migration of the Wildebeest and Zebra in the Masai Mara. September and October climate is about eh same as April and May with small rains occurring in late October and early November.
Documentation:
Visitors from the United States and Europe are required to have passports and visas. Firearms, illicit drugs and obscene literature are prohibited.
Health:

Prescribed dosages of Malaria medications should be taken two weeks prior to travel, during your stay and two weeks after your return.

In Tanzania and Rwanda, Yellow Fever and Cholera inoculations are required unless one is allergic. Then a doctor's note is required.

Drinking only bottled water is recommended although the tap water in Nairobi is safe.

Insect repellent is highly recommended.

People with allergies to dust or dust related problems should bring gauze masks as the terrain can be very dusty in places.
Currency:
There are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency brought in to the country. It is advised that you exchange currency only at registered banks, bureau de change or authorized hotels. U.S Dollars are handy in many cases for petty disbursement.
Tipping:
Driver/Guide tips are NOT included in the safari cost unless specified. The general rule is $10 per day per person (more if he provides special or extra services). Payment at the end of the trip is customary.
Hotels/game lodges/tented camps and restaurants typically will add in a service charge, making tipping unnecessary unless exception service warrants optional additional tipping.
Rates:
Published prices are based on costs and rates of the exchange prevailing at the time of publication and are subject to change without notice. Rates include the best available accommodations and table d'hote meals as indicated in the itinerary, vehicle and driver for the planned itinerary, ranger guide where necessary, and entrance fee for National Parks and Game Reserves. Hotels, Lodges and camps noted herein are an indication of category, and the company reserves the right to use alternative hotels, lodges or camps of a similar category. Rates do not include items of a personal nature such as passport and visa fees, beverages, laundry, airport or port taxes and tips.
Deposits and Cancellations:
A deposit of 25% of the land tour cost is required at the time of booking. Airfare is paid in full at the time of booking and is non-cancelable, non-refundable. Change fees for airline tickets are based on the selected airline policy. The balance is due 60 days prior to the commencement of the tour. When bookings are made less than 45 days prior to tour commencement; full payment is required at the time of booking. Failure to execute the above payment schedule may result in tour cancellation by Aloha Tours & Safaris and Arizona Trails. Confirmed tours canceled more than 45 days prior to commencement will be subject to any cancellation fees levied by the hotels and lodges, a $25 service fee, plus any additional expenses incurred by Arizona Trails and Aloha Tours & Safaris in the actioning of this cancellation. Tours canceled from 45 days to 7 days prior to tour commencement will be subject to a cancellation fee of US $ 250 per person, plus any charges levied by the hotels and lodges. Cancellations received within 7 days prior to tour and no shows will be charged 100% of tour cost.
Travel Insurance:
Travel insurance is highly recommended and covers the entire cost of your trip, less any airline penalties and the cost of your policy. Ask your reservation agent for a quote based on the cost of your trip.
